Big Weekend Ahead…

This weekend will be yet another big weekend for College Life; primarily for two reasons…

First, this weekend is UNT’s 2nd home football game, which means there’s another Pep Rally this Friday night, 7pm at Clark Park.  The last pep rally UNT had was pretty stinkin’ incredible.  Tons of students, free food, live band, guest speakers, and giveaways.  It was truly a step up for UNT in cultivating school spirit! But as we continue to promote missional living in College Life, it’s important to remember that the essence of missional living is going where the people are, not just waiting for them to come to us.  With over 1,000 students at the last pep rally, this on-campus event presents a phenominal opportunity to go where the people are, build vital bridges to UNT, and be a visible witness for Christ and His church.  So again, I want to encourage our students to go to this pep rally Friday night- But not just go and attend, go and engage! Step outside of your comfort zones, meet other students, make conversational deposits, and seek to “love our neighbor” the way that Christ did.

Second, my staff and I are heading up to Minneapolis for the Desiring God National Conference this weekend.  I’ve not been to one of these conferences before, but when I heard the theme of this conference, I knew I had to take my whole staff to be a part of this.  The theme of the conference is “Above All Earthly Powers: The Supremecy of Christ in a Postmodern World.”  The “Missional Life” series that we’ve been doing at Axcess only scratches the surface of what this conference will be dealing with.  This whole conference is wired around the idea of effectively ministering the Gospel in the midst of an ever-changing, ever-emerging culutre, such as the one in which we live.  Speakers include:

  • John Piper
  • Mark Driscoll
  • Tim Keller
  • David Wells
  • Voddie Bauchum
  • D.A. Carson

I would ask that all of College Life be in prayer for our time at this conference.  We’re asking God to show us some things that we can take back to our campus and church here in Denton, so we can more effectively pursue His plan for reaching our campus and culture for Christ.  This is a very pivotal time in College Life, and my staff and I eagerly anticipate this opportunity to pull away and dream a bit for what could be, and should be, concerning the church’s role in today’s culture.
